Alibaba Pictures Group: Chinese shopping giant Alibaba has registered this film company in Hong Kong. The new unit’s directors will include Dong Ping, chairman of ChinaVision, and Zhao Chao, an executive director of ChinaVision. Alibaba bought a controlling stake in ChinaVision for $804 million in March. Bloom: Former Exclusive Media executive Alex Walton and Waypoint Entertainment’s Kenneth Kao have teamed up to form this new film sales and financing company. The company will represent some of Exclusive Media’s existing projects, while also building its own slate of films. Bulldog Film Distribution: This independent film distributor has launched in the UK, and will focus on acquiring and distributing content both within the UK and internationally. It is aiming for three to four theatrical releases per year. SAM Productions: StudioCanal and its parent Canal Group have partnered with Scandinavian talent Søren Sveistrup, Adam Price, and Meta Louise Foldager to launch this new venture, which plans to produce television series for the international market. Stun Originals: Stun Creative has launched this new production start-up, which aims to develop original programming and content for TV and the web. Former Mandeville TV president Maria Crenna will head the Los Angeles-based venture. Wing and A Prayer Pictures: Ron Perlman has launched this indie film fund and production company. Gersh’s Jay Cohen, and Link Entertainment’s Erik Kritzer and Brian Wilkins will all hold managerial positions.
